What a wonderful time we had Friday at our VPK Teacher Workshop at Bright Beginnings Early School. A warm welcome to Molly, the new Stepping Stones teacher. Let me tell you I slept well last night after an energetic and fun morning with this group.

Unlike most reading programs, our preschool program is not scripted and curriculum-driven. We respect the intelligence and creativity of preschool teachers. And we wonder how you can follow a script with a VPK classroom. Someday, I may try to time the attention spans of a class of 4-year-olds. But I don’t know if my thumb will work that fast on a stopwatch. So, okay, forget the respect and admire. We are downright in awe.

We packed a lot of material in our half day session with a focus on:

  •  weaving phonograms throughout the day  (from science to snack time)
  • incorporating present classroom materials and activities into phonogram instruction (no need to start from scratch)
  • enhancing the family/school literacy partnership (Parents will receive My First Phonogram Book compliments of Bright Beginnings.)
  • sequencing of instruction ( starting with “sail away” vowel buddies instead of letter a.)

We look forward to our continued teamwork with the VPK and Stepping Stones teachers and also to the orientation for parents where we will “Kick-off” our home/school literacy partnership program.

I feel so blessed. Katelyn, Caroline, and Cameron have all graduated from BB; but I still get to hang out there.
