Commas Can Save Lives

Lets eat grandma.

Oh, dear, where is the comma headed?

A recent U.K Daily Mail headline read, “The death of the comma? U.S. academic claims punctuation mark could be abolished from English language with ‘little loss of clarity’ (my emphasis).”

Little loss of clarity???? OK, Professor McWhorter,
ditch the commas. Are you perfectly clear on this writer’s message?

  • A woman without her man is nothing.

  • A woman, without her man, is nothing.

  • A woman, without her, man is nothing.

If commas are cut and grammar begins to crumble, I shall don a black band and go into mourning. In the meantime, I shall profess my allegiance to the comma and prepare scrumptious snacks for my granddaughters.
