THE NATION’S REPORT CARD
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas.
- Nationally, reading scores in 2015 are not different at grade 4 and are lower at grade 8 compared to 2013.
- About one third of fourth- and eighth-grade students in 2015 perform at or above the Proficient level in reading. 36% of 4th graders and 34% of eighth graders.
- About one third of fourth- and eighth-grade students in 2015 perform at or above the Proficient level in reading. 36% of 4th graders and 34% of eighth graders.
But that means 2/3 read below proficiency: 64% of fourth graders and 36% of 8th graders read below proficiency.
