Okay, let’s talk phonogram tiles.

These tiny, 72 rectangles of learning have been my constant companions on the road to reading success. Over the years, I’ve carried them everywhere—in parks, coffee shops, and yes, even on airplanes (because nothing screams "I’m a fun grandma" like whipping out my Wordy Worm Phonogram Fun Tote.

Blending with reading tiles - phonograms are helpful when learning how to sound out words like this!

Back then, my trusty tote bag was my sidekick.

Inside:

  • A detective hat and magnifying glass (because phonogram hunting is serious business)
  • The FUN-O-Guide
  • 72 phonogram tiles

Now, let’s talk about those tiles. I’ve made more phonogram tile sets than I care to admit. There was the laminated set, the Banagrams glued together set, the "oh-no-they’re-all-over-the-floor-of-the-car" set. Organizing them? Ha. Let’s just say I’ve spent more time organizing and grouping phonograms than cooking dinner.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve finally settled on a system with our Build a Word VelcroTile Kit available for download below.

It’s awesome, and well organized and group together by the Raising Robust Readers™ sequence of instruction. But fair warning: you’ll need scissors, a laminator, velcro dots, and a lot patience making them.

And then—cue the heavenly choir—I stumbled upon THIS beauty on Amazon for $23. Ready-made, no cutting, no laminating, no muttering under your breath making your own. If this had existed 20 years ago, I’d have saved myself hours of tile-wrangling and probably a few gray hairs.

Don't forget your detective hat and magnifying glass and your trusty Phonogram FUN-O-Guide.

$105.
